FRACTURE CARE

Fracture Care

Bone and joint injuries  most commonly seen are dislocations and fractures. Both types of trauma can cause pain and damage to the surrounding muscles, nerves and blood vessels.

Casting holds a broken bone in alignment to prevent it from moving while it heals. Casts are made of plaster or fiberglass material. For some fractures, a brace or splint may be used to allow limited movement.

Serious bone and joint injuries require the care of a surgeon trained in orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Douglas Brown and his staff are experts in caring for all types of fractures and dislocations, as well as sprains and tendon ruptures.

We also see patients with injuries which have not healed properly. Do you have questions about your problems? Schedule an appointment today and let us help you heal.

PAIN RELIEF

Pain Relief

Dr. Brown and his staff use the latest technologies to diagnose and treat injuries with minimal

invasiveness. There are several non‐surgical treatments for bone and joint pain.

IN‐OFFICE PROCEDURES OFFERED BY DR. BROWN

Many pain relieving and healing treatments can be performed in our office through the use of minimally invasive procedures by our clinical staff. Some examples include:

•        Physical therapy

•        Joint aspiration and injection

•        Corticosteroid injections and medications

•        Anti‐inflammatory drugs

•        Viscosupplementation for arthritis

Dr. Brown’s staff includes a licensed physical therapist, Anissa Morris, who provides in‐office treatments for injuries and post‐surgery care.

HIVAMAT THERAPY SYSTEM

One office procedure commonly used by Dr. Brown to treat injuries is the HIVAMAT therapy system. It uses electrostatic oscillation to massage the interior tissues of the patient. This promotes:

•        Muscle relaxation

•        Pain alleviation

•        Enhanced mobility

•        Decreased inflammation

The HIVAMAT is also beneficial in draining a patient’s lymphatic system and promoting nutrient uptake.

ULTRASOUND GUIDED INJECTIONS

Ultrasound guided injections are used to administer pain‐relieving medicines and viscosupplementation (additional lubrication to the joint area). Dr. Brown is a leader in Northeast Louisiana in the use of ultrasound to diagnose and treat injuries. The benefits of using ultrasound guided injections:

•        See the location of the needle in real-time

•        Eliminate the guesswork that the medicine was injected at the correct spot

•        Avoid certain vital tissues that do not need to be injected

“We can use ultrasound on any patient that comes into our office, whether it’s for shoulder pain, knee pain, elbow pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, or back pain. Ultrasound is a noninvasive, painless & accurate procedure that can be performed as many times as needed. It does not affect cardiac pacemakers as an MRI would.” – Stephanie Spangler, PA
